Kyoto Rattan & White Vase (1200-0728)
by Currey
The Kyoto Rattan & White Vase was created by an intensive process that required three different artisans to achieve it: the carver of the mango wood vase, the artisan who applied the white lacquer to it, and the rattan weaver who created and affixed the top portion to each. Working in concert, all three had a hand in the vessel's special aesthetics. Another aspect of this white vase that makes it labor intensive is the marriage of the two materials, one rigid and one pliable.
